Either 1998 or 1999 (it was a while ago), the 4th Camberley Scout Unit was invited by 2nd Frimley Scout Unit to join in on a Scout exchange programme to Bietigheim-Bissingen (A town twinned with Surrey Heath, about 15 miles from Stuttgart, Germany). I was the only scout from our unit to take them up on the offer, and spent two weeks out in Germany on my first trip abroad.
The first nine days or so were spent camping with a mix of German and Hungarian Scouts and Leaders - one of the Hungarian Leaders carved an arrow for me out of the local wood (almost as tall as I was at the time), but due to an 'accident' it was broken and I couldn't bring it back.
The last few days were spent at a German Scout's family's house to get an idea of what normal life was like in the area.
I think I have photographs of this up in the loft, I will have to dig them out and scan them in at some point - all old film based :)
